Woe to the Consumer
New iPhone 5: They Win, You Lose
It's here! The big event of the geekazoid universe has occurred and I feel - - - violated.
Apple's highly anticipated announcement of the iPhone 5 held few surprises, due to the "leaks" of the smartphone's modifications during the past year, and is a huge boon for the iPhone accessories market.
This means, in short, that everything you purchased for your older iPhone - - - from cases to boom boxes - - - are destined for the trash heap because they're not compatible with the new wunderkind from Apple.
A new interface adorns this updated device that renders all of these accessories obsolete, unless you want to shell out an additional $30 for an adaptor.
Also, the new iPhone is sleeker and longer than the older version, which has iPhone case makers worldwide jumping with glee.
Obviously this isn't going to stop us from flocking to our neighborhood Apple Store or wireless phone outlet to get our hands on the new device - - - me included. Preorders for the new phone began today and it's scheduled to hit store shelves on Sept. 21, a couple of weeks before Apple is scheduled to announce their new seven-inch iPad.
But the big winners here aren't the consumers, or even Apple. The benefactors of the iPhone 5 phenomenon are the peripheral manufacturers.
